Elizabeth Julia (Catrombone) Nicotera, 96, of the St. Luke's Home and formerly of North Utica passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013 after a short illness. Elizabeth was born in Utica on March 24, 1917, a daughter of Saverio and Rosaria (Cristo) Catrombone. In October of 1936 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Utica Elizabeth was united in marriage to Fred Nicotera, a blessed union of 28 years until his death on June 17, 1964. For many years she was employed with the General Electric Co. Elizabeth was a parishioner of St. Peter's Church, N. Utica. Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Rose "Ricky" Voce with whom she lived, three granddaughters, Elizabeth Bolan and husband, Scott, Luann Woodward and husband, Wayne, and Carol Jean Adams and husband, Jerry, 5 great grandchildren, Zachary Bolan, Nick Bolan, Lila Adams, Marissa Woodward and Codey Woodward, a daughter-in-law, Dotty Taillie and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews especially acknowledging Margaret and Frank Papale who lovingly care for Elizabeth through the years and Bethany Papale who Elizabeth considered like a granddaughter. Elizabeth was predeceased by her son, Fred Nicotera, Jr. on August 9, 1972, who was always close to her heart, a brother and his wife, Nick and Betty Catrombone, sisters and their husbands, Anna and Peter Bianco, Frances and Anthony (Sailor) Nicotera and Jessie (Josephine) and Nick Barbero and a brother-in-law, Joseph A. Voce, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Nicotera's funeral will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and at 10:00 from St. Peter's Church, N. Utica, Celebrant Rev. David Orzel. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 2-4.
