FLORIDA - CLINTON, NY- Melvin M. Bonsel, 73, of Florida, formerly of Clinton, NY, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 at his home. Mel was born in Middleville, NY, the son of Byron and Helen (Stacho) Bonsel, moving to Clinton at the age of 5. He graduated from Clinton Central School, Class of 1958. Mel then went on to serve his country for 4 years with the US Navy. In 1963, Mel married Dorothy Sue Evans, sharing a union of 50 years. He and Sue retired to Betmar Acres Park in Florida in 2001. Mel had been a partner in the building and operations of Clayville Ice Co., he worked several years for George Weisenberger Co., and was a home builder in the Clinton area. He designed, built, and operated the Birdies, Eagles, and Ducks Golf Course in Clinton, with his wife. Mel is a former member of the Utica Curling Club, the Kirkland Jaycees (earning a JCI senatorship), a member of the Clinton Fire Department for over 25 years, a member of Clinton Kiwanis, and of the Moose Club. He also was a member of the Helmuth-Ingall's American Legion Post #232, Franklin Springs, and of the Schillings-Burns-Young VFW Post #9591, Clinton. Mel is survived by his wife, Sue Bonsel, Florida; his daughter, Kelly Williams, two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Brooke Bonsel, Melvin and Debora Bonsel; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Casey, and Molly Williams, Cody and Brandi Bonsel, and Jade and Jorden Bonsel; one great granddaughter, Alice; a sister and brother-in-law, Ellie and Derry Dubetsky; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Betsy Bonsel; as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is predeceased by a grandson, Marine PFC, Joseph Filip. Funeral Services are being held privately at the convenience of the family. Local arrangements entrusted to the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton.
