Mr. Richard Wilson, 89, of Whitesboro, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the St. Luke's Home in New Hartford. Richard was born in Utica, on September 24, 1924, the son of Samuel and Edith (Jaynes) Wilson. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College. Richard honorably served in the US Navy during WW II. In 1947, Richard married Yvonne Bugbee. Early in his career, Richard was employed as a window designer for many local stores in downtown Utica. On August 6, 1978, in Ilion, NY, Richard married Joan Evans. For 34 years, he was employed with Niagara Mohawk Power Company, retiring in 1986. He also worked with various grocery stores in the Utica area. Richard was a member of American Legion Post 1113 in Whitesboro and a former member of the Ilion Moose Lodge. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed woodworking, artistic painting, calligraphy and was a collector of dye cast cars. He was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Wilson is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; five daughters and one son-in-law, Christine and Robert Willey of Washington State, Barbara Bennett of Frankfort, Kathy Tilson of Hawaii, Leslie Wilson of Texas and Noelle Taylor of Texas; a step-daughter, Linda Dawes and her husband Boy of Clinton; as well as 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Steven Wilson and Richard Wilson, a grandson Ryan Tilson, a step-daughter, Donna Gotte and numerous brothers and sisters. Mr. Wilson's funeral and burial in Prospect Cemetery will be held privately at the convenience of his family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society, 100 Lomond Court, Utica, NY 13502 in Richard's memory.
