CLINTON- Henry (Hank) A. Lopata, 90, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, formerly of Paris Hill in Clinton, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the nursing home. Henry was born on February 20, 1923 in Utica, the son of Joseph and Nellie (Wojnas) Lopata. He was raised and educated in Utica, graduating from Utica Free Academy. Henry proudly served his country with the US Marine Corps during World War II. On April 17, 1944, Henry married Stella M. Savicki in St. Mary's Church, Clinton, sharing a blessed union of 63 years until her passing in 2007. He was employed for many years with Divine Brothers in Utica, until his retirement in 1986. Henry was a member of St. Mary's Church, Clinton, of Helmuth-Ingalls American Legion Post #232, Franklin Springs, of Schillings-Burns-Young VFW Post #9591, Clinton, and of the Kirkland Senior Citizens. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening, and was an avid bowler, even winning the American Legion New York State Championship. He was also a fan of Syracuse football and basketball, and of the NY Yankees. Henry loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Henry is survived by his daughter, Barbara-Jo Deep, Ph.D.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Henry J. and Phyllis Lopata, Joseph T. and Cindy Lopata, Michael and Julie Lopata, all of Clinton, James and Debra Lopata, Whitesboro, and a son-in-law, Norman Deep, Sr., Clinton; one sister and brother-in-law, Felicia and Al Delucia, New Hartford. He is also survived by 11 cherished grandchildren, Hilary Lopata, Heath Lopata, Norman Deep, Jr.(and Erika von Schiller-Deep), Dr. Amy Beth Garazo (and Dr. Henry Garazo), Melissa Deep, Joseph T., Jr. (and Valerie) Lopata, Jeremy (and Meredith) Lopata, Meredith (and Joseph) O'Brien, Courtney (and John) Dreimiller, Erin Lopata, Justin Lopata (and Caitlin Ricci); seventeen great-grandchildren, Andrej Nawoj, Jenna and Georgia Deep, Henry, Alexander, and Victor Garazo, Emilio and Porter Lopata, Mia and Chelsea Lopata, Sydni and Graci Dreimiller, Ava Lopata, Allie and Colin O'Brien, Kaylee Lopata, and Esteban Tonini. Henry also leaves a special friend, Helen Reittenger, New Hartford. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Besides his wife, he is predeceased by two sisters, Irene Lopata and Stella Savicki. Mr. Lopata's funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at 9:30 am in St. Mary's Church, Clinton, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton, Monday from 2 - 4, and 6 - 8 pm. Those wishing may donate to Brody's Buddy Ride or to a charity of your choice in Henry's memory. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Presbyterian Home for CNY for the care and compassion given to Henry during his stay.
