NORTH UTICA - Bernice H. Martucci, a resident of the St. Luke's Home in New Hartford, formerly of Coventry Ave., North Utica, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the home. She declined gracefully and departed with dignity. Bernice was born in Ilion, NY, the daughter of William and Emma Pearl (Reynolds) Bird. She was raised and educated in Ilion, graduating from Ilion High School. In 1940, Bernice married Samuel M. Martucci in West Winfield. Mr. Martucci passed away in 1958. Bernice had been employed with Berger's Department Store and then with General Electric Co. She took great pride and pleasure in her 27 years with GE and the many friends she acquired before retiring in 1983. Bernice enjoyed her family, homemaking, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed to travel and was an avid reader, often lending her books to others. Bernice was of the Catholic faith. Bernice is survived by her daughter, Janet Lange, Utica; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Debbie and John Kenealy, and their daughter, Shaeleigh, Whitesboro, David and Margaret Lange and their daughter, Arianna, Marcy; her friend, Diane Alsante, Whitesboro; her former son-in-law, William Lange, Utica, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a sister, Mildred Whipple, and two brothers, Louis and Walter Bird. Mrs. Martucci's funeral will be held on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 10:30 am in St. Anthony's Church, Utica, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Relatives and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica from 9 - 10 am, prior to the funeral service. Those wishing may donate to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Bernice's memory. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the St. Luke's Home, Barton West, for the care and compassion shown to Bernice during her stay.
