Leon Adam Starowicz, 86, of North Utica passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Leon was born in Utica on December 23, 1926 a son of Frank and Rose (Margielewicz) Starowicz. Leon proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II. On July 15, 1950 at St. Peter's Church in North Utica Leon was united in marriage to Rita M. Cichon a blessed union of 35 years until her death on January 14, 1985. For many years until his retirement in 1983 he was employed with PPG Industries in Utica. Leon was a member of the Utica Maennerchor and member and Past President of the Deerfield Lions Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Leon is survived by his five children and their spouses, Stephen and Rosalyn Starowicz, Syracuse, Teresa and Daniel Sauve, Naples, NY, Thomas (Pete) and Vianne Starowicz, Whitesboro, Robert and Cheryl Starowicz, Atsugi, Japan, and Leon and Ana Starowicz, Yorkville, 14 grandchildren, Sarah Snell, Adam Starowicz, Thomas Sauve, David Sauve, T.J. Starowicz, P.J. Starowicz, Matthew Starowicz, Robert J. Starowicz, Lisa Elberson, Jenniffer Starowicz, Andrew Starowicz, Eric Starowicz, Joseph Starowicz and Maria Starowicz, a sister, Phyllis Stewart, Westwood, NJ, 2 nephews, Jack Starowitz and Charles Starowicz both of Syracuse, his companion and dear friend, Grace Bendix, Clark Mills and 12 great grandchildren. Leon was predeceased by 2 brothers, John Starowitz and Cashmere Starowicz. Mr. Starowicz's funeral with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 10:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and at 11:00 from Our Lady of The Rosary Church, New Hartford where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Yorkville. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 4-7. Those so wishing may make donations to Hospice & Palliative Care in Leon's memory.
