Mrs. Roberta N. Schaal, 90, a resident of the Pines at Utica Nursing Home, formerly of Deerfield, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the nursing home with her loving daughter and son-in-law by her side. Roberta was born in Utica on November 23, 1922, the daughter of Robert and Lula (Kishell) Neary. She was raised locally and was a graduate of Whitesboro High School. On July 13, 1946, Roberta married Robert F. Schaal at Sacred Heart Church in Utica, a devoted union of 62 years until Roberts death in 2008. For a number of years until her retirement, Roberta was employed with Mounser Insurance Agency in Whitesboro. She was a parishioner of St. Peter's Church in N. Utica. Mrs. Schaal is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Dex Watson of Whitesboro; two grandchildren, Gregory Watson and his wife Dana of Charlotte, NC and Lori Marples and her husband Don of Stafford, VA; one sister, Lucille Graf of Yorkville as well as seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Schaal's funeral will be held on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, 422 Coventry Ave., N. Utica. Rite of Committal and burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. There are no public calling hours. Please omit floral offering and consider making a donation to St. Peter's Church, 422 Coventry Ave., Utica, NY 13502 or the Alzheimer's Association, 258 Genesee St., Utica, NY 13502 in Roberta's memory. Mrs. Schaal's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff on the 4th floor at the Pines at Utica for the wonderful care and compassion given to Roberta.
