Mr. Robert J. Ching, 66, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Robert was born in Utica on March 16, 1947, the son of Peter and Alma (Denslow) Ching and received his education in Utica schools. On July 5, 1990, Robert married Phyllis A. Lancto. For many years, Robert was employed as a truck driver with Fred Burrows Trucking, Murray Paving and View Paving until his retirement. He was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Ching is survived by Phyllis Ching of NY Mills; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Patricia Ching of Westmoreland; 5 grandchildren, Peter Ching and his wife Megan, Andrew Ching, McKenzie Ching, Cory Ching and Brandon Ching; one great granddaughter Gabriella; step-daughter, Tina Collea and her husband James 0f Yorkville as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Roberta Ching, two sons, Anthony Ching and Robert W. Ching, one sister, Dorothy Powers and a step-son, Charles P. Pelton. Mr. Ching's funeral will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Historic Old St. John's Church in Utica where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Rite of Committal and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday morning 10:30 to 12:30 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica.
