Esther M. Burns, 94, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, formerly of Old Bourne Dr., Clinton, passed away at the home July 24, 2013, with her family at her side. Esther was born in Watertown, NY on November 4, 1918, the daughter of Robert C. and Charlotte (Reese) McCraken. She was a graduate of Watertown schools, and furthered her education in Dietary Science at Canton College. On, September 25, 1946, at St. Mary's, Clinton, Esther was married to James L. Burns. Mr. Burns passed away in 1996. She was employed for a period with Hamilton College as assistant librarian, and then as dietician for Faxton Children's Hospital. Esther was proud to have been associated with the start of Meals on Wheels in the surrounding area. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Clinton, a member of the 3rd Thursday Group at St. Mary's, a member of the Skenandoa Club of Clinton, and an avid bridge player. She mostly enjoyed passing her time with her children and grandchildren. Esther is survived by her four children and their spouses, Suzanne L. and Paul Kamens of Meriden, CT., Sally A. and John Glouse of Clinton, James Michael and Margaret Eckenfelder Burns of Vancouver,BC, Canada, and Robert C. and Laurie Burns of Clinton; six grandchildren, Krista (Anthony) Paparazzo, Eric (Lisa) Kamens, Garrett (Jason) LoCash, Jennifer (Michael) Wickman, LT. JG. Caitlin Burns, US Navy, and Sarah Burns; three great grandchildren, Brianna, Kayla, and Matthew. She also leaves her in-laws, Bernard and Carol Burns, Edward and Jean Duffy, Joyce Burns, and several nieces and nephews. Esther was also predeceased by a brother, Bud McCraken. Mrs. Burns' funeral will be held Saturday, July 27,2013 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton, at 11:30 A.M., where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Her Rite of Committal and Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton. By Esther's request, there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Esther's memory would be appreciated to the Clinton Fire Department.
