Joseph Allen Robertson, 69, a resident of The Parks Rehabilitation Center in Orlando, Florida, formerly of Herkimer and Utica, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the Dr. P. Phillips Hospital in Orlando. Joseph was born in Herkimer, NY on August 13, 1943, the son of Sidney and Dorothy (Robinson) Robertson. He was raised and educated in Mohawk and Utica, graduating from Utica Free Academy. Joseph served his country with the US Army from 1962 - 64. Upon returning, he was employed as a caregiver with the Genesee Nursing Home and Broad Acres Nursing Home. Joseph also worked in the radio industry with his friend and mentor, Hank Brown. In 1975, Joseph relocated to Florida, where one of his favorite jobs was working as a movie extra at Universal and Disney Studios. He especially enjoyed working with the children in the "Make a Wish" and the "Give Kids the World" programs. Joseph was of the Methodist faith. Joseph is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Bill Schreher, Tully, NY; and by many dear friends in the Utica area and in Florida, including Maureen Sullivan. Besides his parents, Joseph is predeceased by his aunt, Isabelle Robinson. Mr. Robertson's funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 7:00 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica. Interment, in Mohawk Cemetery, will take place at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home, Thursday evening, from 5 - 7 pm, prior to the service. Those wishing may donate to the "Make a Wish" Foundation or the "Give the Kids the World" program in Joseph's memory.
