Roland H. Bertram, 86, of N. Utica, passed away on August 22, 2018 at home. Roland was born in Syracuse, New York, a son of Addie Bertram. He served in the Army during the Korean War serving with the 544th Dispensary. At St. Bridget’s Church, Syracuse, on May 12, 1956, he was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Willoughby, blessed union until her death in 2010. For many years until his retirement in 1989, Roland was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base. He later retired from Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute. He was a life member of American Legion Post #229, N. Utica and the VFW of Schuyler. Roland is survived by two sons, Roland P. Bertram, Utica, and Bruce Bertram and fiancée, Rebecca Sytsma, MI, five grandchildren, Patrick Bertram and wife, Maghen, FL, Michele Bertram, Utica, Michael Bertram, Utica, Carrie Clark, Holland Patent and Katlynn Bertram, MI, a sister, Mary Ellen Bertram, Syracuse and several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son Gregory Bertram in 2010 and a brother Harold Bertram. Mr. Bertram’s funeral will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 1:30 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Entombment with Military Honors will be in Holy Trinity Mausoleum will take place immediately following the service. Calling hours at the funeral home are prior to the service from 12:00 – 1:30. Those so wishing may make donations to the American Cancer Society in Roland’s memory.
