Obituary of Mary S. Pike

Mrs. Mary (Sue) S. Pike, 78, of N. Utica, passed away on Wednesday April 10, 2013 at the Abraham House in Utica. Mary was born in Utica on February 3, 1935 the daughter of Joseph C. and Mary (Ward) Schwertfeger. She was raised locally and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On June 25, 1955, Mary was united in Marriage with Robert J. Pike, a devoted union of 45 years until Robert's death in 2000. Mary enjoyed baking, puzzle books, trips to the casino, Voss' drive-in, Joe's Pizza and vacations with her daughter Karen. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to caring for her family. Mrs. Pike is survived by five daughters, Barbara Varga and her husband Joe of N. Utica, Karen Pike-Roberts and her husband George of Floyd, Dawn Ranager and her husband David of Mississippi, Lynn Stoddard and Bruce Tefft of N. Utica and Cheryl Deno and her Husband Thomas of Whitesboro; three sons, Robert J. Pike and his wife Patti of California, Joseph C. Pike and his wife Diane of Mississippi and James P. Pike and his wife Andrea of N. Utica; one brother, Herman Schwertfeger and his wife Jean of Floyd as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Eileen Edick and a brother, Joseph Schwertfeger. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service on Thursday (today) April 11, 2013 at 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. A private interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in California. Mrs. Pike's family will greet visitors at the conclusion of the service.
