Obituary of Nancy B. Maxam

Nancy B. Maxam, 72, of Clinton, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with her family by her side. Nancy was born in Utica on August 12, 1940, the daughter of Edward and Julia (Helmuth) Burns. She was raised and educated in Clinton, graduating from Clinton Central schools. On June 10, 1961, Nancy married Richard E. Maxam, and shared a union of almost 52 years. She was employed as a nurse's aide with the Presbyterian Home for CNY, until her retirement in 2006. Nancy enjoyed camping with her family and especially spending time with her grandchildren and attending their many activities. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Clinton. Nancy is survived by her beloved husband, Richard Maxam, Clinton; four sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Bonnie Maxam, Clinton, Ed and Julie Maxam, Clinton, Steven and Ginny Maxam, MA, Doug and Patti Maxam, Clinton; eleven cherished grandchildren, Cassandra, Edward, Richie, Steve, Thomas, Roger, Jenny, Andrew, Tess, Roy, and Lissa. She is also survived by in-laws, Hazel Burns, Margaret Burns, Betty Maxam, Peg and Jack Murfit, Jean Maxam, Jeannette and Larry DeLuca and Gretchen Maxam as well as by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Nancy also leaves special friends, Mike and Maureen Ladd and their children, Mike and Kara. Nancy is predeceased by two brothers, John and William Burns; two sisters, Elizabeth Anne Burns and Mary Siedsma; and in-laws, Don Siedsma, Helen and William Kenneally, Art Maxam, Bruce Maxam, Paul Maxam, Donald Maxam, and Gail Dodds. Mrs. Maxam's funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 9:30 am at St. Mary's Church, Clinton, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton, Tuesday evening, from 5 - 8 pm. Those wishing may donate to COCVAC in Nancy's memory. The family would like to thank the caring doctors, nurses, and staff of St. Elizabeth Medical Center for the care and compassion shown to Nancy and her family during this difficult time.
