Mrs. Winifred "Winnie" C. Sciortino, 73 of Deerfield, passed away on Wednesday March 13, 2013 at the St. Luke's Skilled Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. Winnie was born Christmas Day, 1939 in Lowville, NY the daughter of Gordon and Isabelle (Foote) Virkler. She was raised in Lowville and was a 1957 graduate of Lowville Academy. On December 14, 1975, Winifred married Joseph D. Sciortino at Whitesboro Presbyterian Church. At one time, she was employed as a ticket agent with Mohawk Airlines and later in the catalogue department with Montgomery Ward. Many people will remember the warm smiles, kind words and compassion from Winnie during her years working at Chester's Flower Shop in N. Utica and Partners Trust Bank. Winnie was a dedicated wife and mother who enjoyed family gatherings, boating and camping on the St. Lawrence River and cooking for her family. She also enjoyed singing, playing the piano, knitting and reading novels. Mrs. Sciortino is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph; her daughter Cindy (Gladwin) and Mike Horan of Maine, NY; daughter, Kelly (Gladwin) and David Hartley of Lyons Falls, NY; son, Richard Gladwin and Kaye Inman of Huntsville, AL; son Jeffrey Gladwin and Dawn Donnelly of West Henrietta, NY and son Joseph M. and Nicole Sciortino of Deerfield, NY. She is also survived by her 8 cherished grandchildren, Kristin Horan, Kelsey Horan, Katelyn Horan, DJ Ralbovsky, Matthew Ralbovsky, Gabrielle Hartley, Micah Gladwin and Bridgett Gladwin and a brother Paul Virkler. Calling hours for family and friends are Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd. N.
