Marie A. Neejer, 95, of the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility in Oneida, NY, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016 with her loving family by her side. Marie was born in Utica, on July 29, 1920, a daughter of the late Winfred and Rose (Cianciola) Doane. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. Marie married Harold E. Neejer at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, on October 25, 1947, a blessed union of 35 years until his death on May 31, 1982. For twenty years, she was employed by Oneida County and Catholic Charities in the Foster Parent Program. During this time she was a foster mother to 300 children. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. Marie is survived by her two children, Mary Anne Debbold and husband, Scott, of Cassville, David Neejer and wife, Barbara, of Whitesboro, five grandchildren, Danielle Mills and husband, Bryan, Nicole Lockwood and husband, Chris, Janelle Sweet and husband, Josh, Ashleigh Winston, Christine Neejer and partner, Kristen Staley, eight great grandchildren, Owen, Sawyer, Kingston, Hayleigh, Ty, Payton, Logan and Skylar, a sister-in-law, Angie Doane, and several nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by a sister, Helen Rycraft and a brother, Robert Doane. Mrs. Neejer's funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Those so wishing may make donations to Evelyn's House for Young Mothers and Babies or the House of the Good Shepherd Foster Care.
