George E. Steuart , 92 of N. Utica passed away Tuesday October 26, 2010 at his home. George was born March 10, 1918 in Schenectady, NY the son of the late James H. and Amy D. (Scott) Steuart and Harold B. Patterson. He was educated in Schenectady and was a graduate of Draper High School. George proudly served his country in the US Army, as a platoon sergeant with the 101st parachute infantry. He parachuted into France the night before The "D" day invasion. He was later wounded and hospitalized, before rejoining his unit to parachute in the Battle of the Bulge. George received unit citations for campaigns in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland and was the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts. On August 18, 1945 at St. George's Episcopal Church in Schenectady, George married Neola B. Bradt, a loving and devoted union of 53 years until Neola's death in 1999. George was employed for several years with the International General Electric prior to his service in the Army. Upon his discharge, he worked for the NY Telephone Company, retiring in 1976 after 32 years of service. He was a member of St. George's Lodge No 6 F. & A. M. in Rotterdam, NY, the Telephone Pioneers, Disabled American Veterans and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Steuart is survived by three brothers and their spouses, James Steuart of Schenectady, NY, Bernard and Susan Steuart of Peru, NY and Robert and Cheryl Patterson of Leesburg, FL and Newcomb, NY, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Coraline Crisafulli of Fulton, NY. Also surviving are many supportive nieces, nephews and close friends. A private funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
