Obituary of Madeline M. Fox

Madeline M. Fox, 99, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, formerly of Utica and Kayuta Lake, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the home. Madeline was born December 28, 1910 in Utica, NY, the daughter of Felix and Esther (Reeves) Geary. She was raised and educated locally and later employed with Neisner's Department Store. On October 22, 1944, Madeline married Edward G. (Gerry) Fox in Sacred Heart Church, Utica. Gerry passed away in 1991. Madeline was a lifelong summer resident of Kayuta Lake and winter resident of Utica. While at Kayuta Lake, she attended St. Patrick's Church in Forestport and when living in Utica she attended Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica. Madeline was a life member of the Remsen VFW Post # 982 Ladies Auxiliary and a cofounder of the "Red and White Club" on Brown Tract Road. Madeline is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Patricia Fox, Remsen, NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Ken Read, Annapolis, MD; great grandchildren, Sydney and Bohdan Wendel, Lakewood, NY; a sister-in-law, Midge Geary, North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are dear summer friends from Kayuta Lake, Ira and Elizabeth Domser, Utica. She was predeceased by two brothers, Russell and Francis Geary, and by a sister, Mildred Bitely. Mrs. Fox's funeral will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. A spring interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton will take place at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, on Wednesday evening, from 4 - 7 pm. The Remsen VFW Post # 982 Ladies Auxiliary will conduct their service in Madeline's honor at 6:00 pm. Those wishing may donate to the Oneida County Volunteer Firemans Association Scholarship Fund in Madeline's memory. The family extends their thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, and especially the Maple Unit for the care and compassion shown to both Madeline and her family during her stay.
