(Sparky) Schremp, 87, a resident of St. Joseph Nursing Home, formerly of Whitesboro, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at the nursing home. Paul was born in Utica on March 21, 1920, the son of Joseph H. and Ella M. (Mullen) Schrempf and received his education in local schools. He honorably served his country in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. For many years Paul was employed as a quality control specialist at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome. He was a member of Malson Jones VFW Post 7393, NY Mills, American Legion Post 1113, Whitesboro, the Fur, Fin and Feather Club, Utica, and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. Paul, like his family, was a conservative man with a generous heart. "Sparky" had many admirable qualities, loved his dogs and was deeply appreciative for everything that was done for him. In his younger days, he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing as well as hockey. Paul was a lifetime member and usher of St. Joseph St. Patrick Church, Utica, the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church and a former member of St. Anne's Church, Whitesboro. He had a great love for Blessed Mother Marianne Cope, Foundress of the Franciscan Missions in Molokai and looked forward to attending the dedication of her Shrine in front of his beloved church. Mr. Schremp is survived by a nephew, Jim Schremp and his wife, Lucy, Rochester; a niece, Beverly Mulloy and her husband, Brian, Sauquoit; and a lifetime friend and caregiver, Betty Frank, Utica. He was predeceased by three sisters, Bernadine M. Schrempf, Marian Kreimeyer and Rosella Schrempf; and two brothers, Jerome Schremp and Willard Schremp. Mr. Schremp's funeral will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, and 11:00 at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yorkville. Calling hours for family and friends are Saturday morning, 9:30-10:30 prior to the service. His family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, St. Elizabeth Medical Center and Carmelite Sisters and staff of St. Joseph's Nursing Home for their excellent care and compassion. Our gratitude is extended to Dr. Anthony Jadhon, Dr. Atul Butala, Dr. Dilip Kachare, lifetime family friend and caregiver, Betty Frank, homecare givers, Mary Neimer, Janine Sikora, Roseann Brodt and Donna Barresi and his many friends and neighbors for their visits and special treats.
