Obituary of John Philip Leech

John P. Leech, 81, formerly of New Hartford, passed away peacefully at Lutheran Care on January 22, 2021. John was born in Utica on September 14, 1939, a son of the late Philip and Buelah Leech. He was educated in the Utica School System. His working career started at the age of 18 as a bank teller for the Savings Bank of Utica, now M&T bank. He managed several branches and after receiving his degree as a Certified Financial Planner was promoted as Vice President of SBLI Life Insurance. He retired after close to 50 years of service. John had many interests that included gardening, antiques, traveling, entertaining and animals. He did volunteer work for Canine Working Companions and was a supporter of both Spring Farm Cares and ACR Health. John was actively involved at St. Thomas Church as a Eucharistic Minister, as well as a member of the Men’s Club. He was a devoted caregiver to his mother, Beulah, and many others. John is survived by his son John L. Leech, of Utica, cousins, Albert, Laurie, Al and Justin Radell, of Marcy, Linda Forbes and Julie Forbes, of CA, and Lori Sturtevant, of SC. John leaves behind many special friends whom he cherished dearly. He was predeceased by his ex-wife, Marilyn Pontero and his son’s partner, Edward Pitt. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Laurie Radell for all her loving care and attention given to John. At the request of the family, due to Covid, there will be no services. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Donations may be made to either ACR Health or Spring Farm Cares in John’s memory.
