Mr. Howard (Howie) G. Shanley, Jr., 61, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford. Howard was born in Utica, on March 2, 1960, the son of Howard and Barbara (Jones) Shanley. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. Howie proudly served in then US Navy from 1980 until his honorable discharge in 1984. For many years, he was employed as a mason with the Utica DPW. Howie enjoyed hunting, fishing and attended Historic Old St. John’s Church in Utica. Mr. Shanley is survived by his son, Howard Shanley and his companion, Jaime Martin of New Hartford; his mother, Barbara Shanley of Utica; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Dawn Shanley of New Hartford, Darleen and Bill Schrader of Utica and Beth and Mike Jones of Deansboro; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Ray Shanley, Dan and Sue Shanley and Al Shanley and his companion Karen Pugliese, all of Utica; one nephew, Dan Shanley and his wife Carmelita of Utica and two nieces, Ashley Shanley of Rome and Lindsey Shanley of FL. He was predeceased by his father, Howard. Visitation for family and friends is Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 noon and the conclusion of visitation. He will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville.
