It has been many years since I’ve seen Vidal Molina. He was a very kind, gentle, hard working man. We worked together at Party Packing Corporation in the 1970s. It was hard work, in difficult conditions, certainly not for the faint of heart. But it was good steady work for which many men sacrificed and toiled for the betterment and advancement of their families. Vidal was one of these men; he was a hard worker. He made many sacrifices for his family. In the midst of this rather difficult work environment, Vidal was always kind and had an ever present smile.
I was a very young man, in my early high school years, working in a man’s world. Vidal is a man I will never forget. At that time, he spoke very little English, I was struggling to learn Spanish. Our rule was that he would speak English to me, I had to speak Spanish to him. Neither of us did our parts very well, but despite our language differences, a friendship was forged because this hardworking man was always so kind and gentle in an environment that was anything but kind or gentle.
In 1980, I moved away, and lost track of my old friend. I often wondered what became of him as he left a lasting impression upon me. This was not because of what he could tell me, we barely understood one another! But his hard work ethic, ever present smile, his kind, gentle manner, were lessons to be treasured.
I sought him out some years later and learned that he had moved to Texas. Sadly, I never spoke with him again. But I have a lasting memory of that smile. He was a humble, hard working man who cared about others, his family most of all. This was a great man. He showed me how to work hard, make the best of things, and smile, no matter the difficulties.
My heartfelt sympathies to his beautiful family. Cherish your memories. Always keep his smile within you.
Tonight, I was proud to kneel at this man’s side, with a prayer in my heart that he has heard the joyful words: “Well done! Well done, my good and faithful servant, now enter the joy of your Master’s House!”.
Vidal, may you come to know the Peace and Joy of all those whom we call Blessed!

So sorry about the loss of your father Tata. I can't believe I've known you, your family, and your father for around 36 years. I'm sure I had met your father before this memory I'm about to share, however this is longest memory of having met him that I can recollect.
The memory of your father that I recollect was that year back in 1984 or 1985, when we were snowed in at your apartment on Bandera Road. Remember that snow was as high as my mid thigh. That was about 2 feet.
I'm sure that wasn't anything for you guys being from New York, but for Texas, that was like a sever storm warning going out, followed by a lot of snow. I remember your dad pacing up and down on the walkway outside of your apartment. He might have been a little ansy from not being able to leave. Sometimes he was just outside looking at the white blanket of snow.
Your dad was able to meet all of my family and he was considered as part of our family as well. They all send their condolences.
I also remembered another time we were having dinner at my house on Chatsworth. I was in my small kitchen and your dad was talking to me about a lot of different things about work and family mostly. But in that small kitchen is where your dad told me, even though we were not blood related in any way, that my kids treated him just as if he was their own grandfather and that he cared about them as if they were his blood related grandkids. It made me feel as if he was as attached to my kids, Liana and Mikie as he was attached to Ada and Maritza, who were his real grandkids.
I thought that was a beautiful memory I wanted to share with you and other family members that might read these memories.
RIP Grandpa Vidal.
