Mr. William “Bill” F. Schrader, 65, of N. Utica, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. William was born in Herkimer, NY, on October 4, 1956, the son of Frank and Mary Jane (Weaver) Schrader and received his education there. On October 26, 2002, Bill was united in marriage with Darleen Shanley at Stonebridge Golf and Country Club. At one time, Bill was employed as Commissioner of the Utica Department of Public Works and more recently, as Superintendent with the Oneida Herkimer Solid Waste Authority, retiring on September 8, 2021. Bill enjoyed boating, his and Darleen’s trips to Maine and especially spending time with his adored family. He was an avid sports enthusiast and a big fan of the Appalachian State Mountaineers, New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Bill will also be remembered for his unmatched work ethic and his carpentry skills. Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Darleen; two daughters and one son-in-law, Cayla and Josh Embry of NC and Ashley Shanley and Lou Szewczyk of Rome; two sons, William Schrader, Jr., of California and Joshua Schrader and Elizabeth Wood of Utica; two cherished grandchildren, Mia and Maddox Embry; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Evann and Thomas Graziano of VA and Janet and Todd Bennett of South Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Mary Schrader of Richmond Heights, OH; his mother-in-law, Barb (Mimi) Shanley; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ray Shanley, Danny and Sue Shanley, Al Shanley and his companion, Karen Pugliese, Dawn Shanley and Beth and Mike Jones, as well as several nieces, nephews, and many special friends too numerous to mention and his beloved dog, Stella. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary Jane and brother-in-law, Howie Shanley. Visitation for family and friends is Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, followed by a funeral service at 12:30 at the conclusion of visitation. He will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery in Utica.
