To the family of Don Arcand, please accept my sincere condolences on the untimely passing of Don. I worked with Don for many years in both Utica and Rome, and have vivid memories of his delicious venison stew, which he often graciously shared with his fellow employees. But socializing with Don at the Thursday afternoon bike group gatherings over the last few years, I came to deeper appreciation of his generosity and friendship. It’s not the same without Don. May he rest in peace.
Sorry I could not pay my respects in person, as I have moved to Ohio to be closer to family. Sincerely, Bob Faass

On behalf of Jim, Pam and Earl Bordeaux (Escondido, CA)
We got the sad news about Don's passing. It shouldn't have been such a surprise, but, in the end, it was. We knew his health was failing, we just didn't know it would be so soon after going to the hospital this time. He was such a trooper & had pulled thru before.
We'll miss talking with him about some of the fun times we've had together - during his visits in California with Mom & when Mom & I visited Jacque & him in New York. He will be missed.
We do have some pretty good memories to reflect on & will recall a few:
In the 1960's, we first met Don when we all still lived at home. Don had just driven cross-country - day & night from the east coast - to see Jacque. He pulled into the driveway & just wanted to sleep until Jacque got home - boy, did she have a hold on his heart.
Later, Don & Jacque wed, moved into a little place in town & we'd go visit them. When Laura was born, they became a family. Some time after, they moved to the east coast - to where Don had grown up. Next came Anna, then Jamie to complete the family. That was until his daughters met the men in their lives - Carl for Laura & David for Anna and then welcomed a Grandson, Christopher.
Over the years, Don's family also included his much loved dogs & cats. Sometimes he'd talk as much about his cats as he would his kids. And what about those garage squirrels & wild bird stories - who's going to tell their tales now?
Don talked a lot about his life over the years - his hunting tales with family & longtime friends (we guess the wild turkeys & deer are the only ones that won't miss him) and his bicycle rides with his buddies. When Don's brother passed away, a lifelong buddy was gone too.
Since the 1960's, Don was a military man & it was fun listening to his many tales. We also enjoyed the times we visited some military places with him - the Midway in SD, a Fort in NY.
Don shared in laughter with us. The jokes & numerous emails he'd send - how we'd laughed. How will we keep up on "what the Walmart shoppers are wearing", "funny animal pics", etc...We looked forward to his emails - you never knew what you were going to get - except the unexpected!
When visiting Mom & the rest of us in California, Don always wanted to have at least one good barbecue. He was a "seasoning" pusher & he got us "hooked" on "McCormick's Montreal Steak Seasoning" - we buy it in multiples when it's on sale & a jar is always ready to season a good steak or burgers - thanks to Don.
Another visit, Don wanted to have some grilled lobster tails - something we all love, so off to Vons for the $5 a piece "tails"- we had a great lobster meal with all the fixings. Another time we had a lobster feed with the 6 of us - we went to the local casino & enjoyed the endless lobster buffet.
Another barbecue tale - when Don saw our small, 2 burner barbecue & condition of it - old & worn, he joked about it & asked if we were going to have to take turns eating? To make a long story short - Jacque & Don had secretly left money in our car when we took them to the airport, with a note - "for barbecue" - Jim took the money to casino & over a few times winning, doubled the barbecue fund & was able to buy a 5 burner unit for their next barbecue with us - so no one had to wait their turn to eat. This weekend, we'll be barbecuing in Don's honor!
There is little else we can say or do to ease the loss of Don, except to send a message of peace to all the family & friends who cared & loved him. Even though he's gone, our memories of him will be with us forever. We're so glad he was a part of our life & got to visit with us over the years when he & Jacque were here visiting Mom. It gives us joy & puts a smile on our face to think of the times we had together.
Our love & peace to all,
Jim, Pam, Earl & Mom Bordeaux
