My mother & Irene met @ W. H. Devine Manufacturing Co when they were young and they had a lifelong friendship that continued until my mother passed at the age of 91. My mother also introduced Irene to her future husband, Jim. Later on, my mother & Irene took turns babysitting Irene's son Jimmy & I. Irene, her husband, Jim, daughter Sandra & son Jimmy were our friends in the truest sense of the word (like family, really). Never, was this more true than when my parents divorced and my mom & I returned to Utica from California. We were always included in holidays & birthday celebrations all through the year. I have many wonderful memories of delicious food, playing fun board games & watching football games on tv with Jim excitedly cheering his team on to victory. A special recollection I have was the time that Irene's mother, Irene, Sandra, my mother & I went to Syracuse on an awesome shopping trip before I started high school. Another memorable occasion was when my mother & I spent Christmas with the Lehner's. It had snowed heavily during the day, & when it was time to go home the snow had really piled up. With Jimmy driving, the Lehner family, my mother & I all piled into the car & we had a hilarious time getting home fighting the slippery roads & deep snow! Those were special times & I feel so fortunate to have been a part of them. God truly blessed me to be a part of this family. (Being an only child, this was very important to me as Jimmy was like a brother). Thank you, Irene. You are & will be greatly missed. Love, Charlene
