Obituary of May Chapman

    Mrs. May Chapman, 82, of Barneveld, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing in New Hartford.

     May was born in Vernon, NY on July 30, 1940, the daughter of Frank and Edith (Hoos) Grimm.  She was raised in Vernon and was a graduate of VVS High School.  May furthered her education, graduating from Herkimer County Community College in 1993. In 1965, May was united in marriage with William D. Chapman, a loving and devoted union of 15 years until William’s death in 1980. For many years, May was employed as a law secretary in the Utica Area.  May enjoyed doing yard work, especially mowing the lawn and gardening. She also enjoyed bingo and was known to gamble occasionally. 

     Mrs. Chapman is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Chapman of SC; her cherished granddaughter, Chiara Chapman and her husband Jeremy Marshall of Barneveld; one brother, Roland Grimm of OH and a dear family friend, Jack Pflanz of Whitesboro, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Melissa Chapman in 2022.

     Visitation for family and friends is Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. at the conclusion of visitation.  She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband and daughter in Crown Hill Memorial Park in Kirkland.  Those wishing to make a donation in May memory, please consider the John E.
