Obituary of Joyce A. Klein

      Mrs. Joyce A. Klein, (nee Ottaway), 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2023, in Waterville, NY with the comfort of her loving family by her side.

     Joyce was born in Cooperstown, NY on February 18, 1941, the daughter of the late Harold and Florentine (Shalert) Ottaway. She was raised and educated in Cooperstown, graduating from Cooperstown High School in 1959. Joyce furthered her education earning a degree from Utica School of Commerce.in the early 1960’s. In the 1970’s Joyce received additional education and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. During her nursing career, she joyfully worked at the Charles T. Sitrin Nursing Home, Genesee Nursing Home and Harding Nursing Home in Waterville. On May 14, 1960, Joyce was united in marriage with Mr. Raymond Klein. The two shared a loving and devoted union that lasted over 62 years, until Ray’s passing on July 31, 2022.  Their blessed marriage resulted in four sons. Nothing made Joyce happier than being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she was truly devoted to her sons.

     Mrs. Klein is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin Klein and Linda Riccio of Murrells Inlet, SC, Jennifer Caloia of Morrisville, NY, Scott Klein and Yvonne Ventresca of Syracuse, NY and Craig and Patricia (Leone) Klein of Utica; cherished grandchildren, Melissa Klein (Brandon), Michelle Huening (Matt), Craig Klein, Patrick Klein and Samantha Leone; adored great grandchildren, Madison Huening, Logan and Athena Meas and Jillian Huening and Joyce was anxiously awaiting the birth of an additional great grandson, Huening. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins and her canine, Foxy. Joyce was predeceased by her parents; son, Christopher J. Klein; sister, Janet Foster; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lester and Marie Klein; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lester and Gloria (Belmont) Klein, Lawrence Klein, and Patricia (Klein) Schamerhorn.

     Visitation for family and friends is Thursday, August 24, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 noon at the conclusion of visitation. She will be laid to rest with her beloved Ray in Calvary Cemetery in Utica.       Mrs. Klein’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Waterville Residential Care Center, especially, Michelle “Cinderella” Stockbridge, Chris Chesebro and Marion Lee for the exceptional care and compassion you provided to Joyce.
