Carrie Ann Plunkett, 49, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at home after a four-year courageous battle with cancer. Carrie was in the loving arms of her parents at the time of her passing.
Carrie was born in Ilion, NY, on February 14, 1974, the daughter of Don and Sharon (Wieliczka) Plunkett. She attended Barringer Road and Ilion High School, graduated from Oneonta State College and went on to earn her master’s degree from Touro College in New York. Carrie was a teacher for 22 years at General Herkimer Elementary School in N. Utica, where she truly loved teaching children and loved every student and her co-workers. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell stories of her life experiences. She was a NY Giants fan like her dad and enjoyed spending summers at Piesco Lake in the Adirondacks.
Carrie is survived by her loving parents, Don and Sharon Plunkett; uncles, Robert Wieliczka and Dave Plunkett and aunt, Brenda Plunkett, as well as several cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved grandparents, “Grandpa Stash” and “Grandma Julia” Wieliczka and “Grandpa and Grandma Plunkett.”
There are no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family and a celebration of life to honor Carrie will be held at a later date.
Carrie’s parents extend their heartfelt gratitude to Peggy Konig and Gary Fischer for all the love, help and support you provided to Carrie throughout her illness. A special thank you to Kristen, Carrie, Angela, Shannon, Erin, Michelle, Pam, Kelly and Melissa, along with so many, many other dear friends for the many years of friendship you shared with Carrie.
