Dear Baby Girl
I still cry for you as I did for Peggy. Peggy was behind me and Ronald, but you were the baby girl, my baby sister. Since the days of the orphanage on Park Avenue, during our stay at Mrs Kelly, you, Myra were my baby to take care of. Then we were taken from her & separated. Ron & I went to Jamaica, Queens & you were sent to Westbury, Long Island. We continued to see each at monthly visits at Sheltering Arms. As teens we didn’t see much of each other. We were considered old enough to travel on our own to mother’s, which Ron & I did. Your foster parents wouldn’t let you travel to the Bronx on your own. We still kept in touch. I gave up a 4 yr scholarship to Hunter College for nursing. I figured Ronald & I would go into the Air Force & I could learn there to help the troops. Ron went into the Air Force & our birth parents wouldn’t sign for me to go at 18. So he had to go without me, the first time in our lives we were separated from each other. I went to work in Manhattan at an advertising company while you finished high school. When you graduated, you went upstate NY to go to college. I was so proud of you. In those young adult years we visited occasionally, but still kept in touch. When you got sick & diagnosed disable, I told you let me know what you need. I wanted you to come home so my doctors could care for you. I knew they would make you well, bc they saved my life twice. When you had cancer I came immediately to be with you. I had already been thru the process so I could tell you what to expect. We both survived. As we got older, the bus ride was too much for you, and I couldn’t make the drive up. Ron became sick too & couldn’t drive up either. When I would visit him & called you, he never forgot your voice. “Hey girl, how you doing, I haven’t seen you in a long time.”When I came home & went to see him, he said your name out of the blue. I asked him what did he say & he repeated your name. While I was in Utica, the nurses told me he would just sit at the table & cry. He instinctively knew something was wrong . We are twins & it’s always been that way between us. When Ron said your name, I felt you had paid him a visit & he knew why I was struggling. Although he knew your voice on the phone a couple of times each week, he couldn’t recognize your picture. I told Thomas & Peggy to look for you. Now you can get to know each other as siblings. I miss all of you. You leaving me has devastated me. Doreen told me sometimes you called me “my mother” when referring to me because I take care of everybody. Mother & dad had 5 of us. 4 girls & 1 boy. Now 2 girls are gone. Of the additional 4 boys after you, 1 is gone. 3 siblings have been lost so unexpectedly, 2 within 7 months of each other this year. Such a huge loss, but you baby girl are the biggest loss. You are my baby sister. I love you so much & I miss you so much. Just knowing you are not in Utica for me to call anymore brings tears to my eyes. I love you Myra, you will always be in my heart, and never forgotten.
I attached a picture of your Memorial Flag for your years of service in the United States Army Reserves. Damon is going to hang it on the wall for me with Thomas’ Memorial Flag. Thank you for your readiness to serve our country. I wish it loved us as we love our country. RIP BABY GIRL, YOU ARE WHOLE AGAIN BY THE GRACE OF THE ALMIGHTY GOD.
Love Always Sis

This is a tribute from Michael Eldridge. A 65 years old brother of Myra Eldridge.
My sister Myra was a quiet and gentle soul. Ever since I was a small boy. She always showed me nothing short of unconditional love and support. Something every brother longed for from his older sister.
Myra was always a soft spoken sister. The type of sister, who expressed herself loudly with a big hug and a warm loving kiss. A warm hug and kiss, I as her little brother always looked forward to receiving everytime I saw her.
Although my Myra didn't always speak much during a conversation. She was a good listener and always gave me, her younger brother, excellent advice. Her advice was always rooted in love and given in a way that touched me. It touched me, because I knew it was expressed after deep contemplating, to make sure, it would make things better for me.
Although I didn't have the opportunity to spend much time with her, because we lived so far away from one another. She was always with me in thought and in my heart, because I love all my sisters. Myra always received a special type of love from me that was only for her. Although I had four wonderful sisters.
I always thought about her when I started thinking about the ones I loved. I would start thinking about the times I spent with her, on those special occasions, when I was a little boy. As soon as I heard her voice or if someone spoke her name, I immediately felt a warm feeling come over me, that bought a smile too my face.
I will surely miss her. But she will always remain in my heart for the duration of my life. I was so fortunate to have had such a wonderful and loving sister. I will surely miss her.

Q: How did you meet Myra?
A: Myra is my baby sister of four girls born to Emma and Lorenzo Eldridge on August 14, 1953. Myra is 3 years younger than me and my twin, Ronald.
Although the 3 of us grew up as wards of the state, the agency made sure we kept in touch. At 18, Ronald went in the Air Force, I got a job in Manhattan, and when Myra graduated high school in Westbury, LI, she came upstate to go to college. She made a home up here in Utica, joined the Army Reserve and never looked back. I used to beg her to come home but she always declined. Down state was too busy for her. Utica has a calmness she enjoyed.
In younger days, Ron and I would drive up or I would drive up. I drove up for your summer fair one year & was tickled to death watching kids try to catch a pig, running for its life. You said whoever caught the pig got to take it home & eat it. I was in shock and we laughed the rest of the day after a boy caught the squeaky pig.
With age, the drive became too much & of late it became Sunday calls with our sister, Dumplin after church service.
I looked after you baby sister & loved you from afar all our lives. Now you can look after me from afar in Heaven. One day our spirits will be together again, laughing & hugging like we were kids again.
Love Always,
Rosalie (Sis) & Ronald

Dear Aunt Myra,
When my mother called me and told me God called you home. Anger immediately set in. Anger because I tried to call you two weeks prior to your homecoming and I wasn’t able to speak with you. Anger because I left you a message that I would try back again and I never did. But in that message, I also said to you “I’m sorry I haven’t seen you in a long time Aunt Myra. I’m sorry I didn’t keep my word about what we talk about, when we last spoke in July.”
Anger that the only memories I have of you are too long ago because of this dysfunctional curse that hangs over the family. But that’s just the cards you’ve been dealt in life sometimes. And no matter how hard you try to count the dealers hand to change the outcome of the hand you were dealt. The house always wins in the end.
I know everyone was there to welcome you home (Grandpa Lorenzo, Grandma Emma, Peggy and Thomas). Now all of you will have an ever lasting, eternal peace together.
I love you Aunt Myra. Tell everyone I said hi. At least you know the truth about everything now.
Love always,
Your Nephew Shawn
P.S. If a beautiful German Shepard mix with brown and black brindle comes up to you? That’s our first-baby ZoZo. Tell her we miss her very much.
