Doris M. Yager, 83, of Deerfield, NY, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on Friday, January 9th, 2015, at St. Luke's Medical Center in Utica, NY surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born on January 5th, 1932 in Utica, NY, the daughter of Robert & Mary (Jutman) Scheideman. She was married to Robert M. Yager on October 31, 1953 at St. Joseph-St. Patrick's Church in Utica, NY. She graduated from Utica Free Academy. Doris Yager was Producer, Director and Founder of Rhythm-Lite Productions. She has written and choreographed their musical productions for guest performances in Disney World's Magic Kingdom, Four World's Fairs, Noon Time Concert Programs for New York City's Park and Recreational Department, The Lincoln Center Summer Sidewalk Festival, Hunter Mountains "Big Band Festival" and The White House Visitor's Program, Washington, D.C. Regional Theater. Musicals she has choreographed include "Guys and Dolls", "Grease", "Gypsy", "Cinderella", and "Oklahoma". As an instructor she has trained three Radio City Music Hall Rockettes and Dancers, who performed with the National Touring Companies of Broadway Shows, ABC's "Star Search", and Musical Revues for Theme Parks and Cruise Ships. Doris studied Dance at The Musical Arts Conservatory, Amarillo, Texas and with nationally recognized teachers in New York City. She began her training locally with Vinnie Coluzza. She was an art student at Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute and a 4 year art major in High School. Doris has designed costumes for local Theatre programs, Dance Recitals, Rhythm Lite Productions & the Musical Arts Conservatory's Ballet Company. She recently illustrated the book "Cartoons for Trainers" with author Lenn Millbower for Stylus Publishing, LLC and was the author of "I Thought Life was a Song and Dance" (The Rhythm-Lite Story). As a recipient of numerous community service awards she has been listed in "Who's Who Among Women Civic Leaders in America" Doris is survived by her children: Michael & Lori Yager, Westernville, NY; Diane Yager & Brian Doyle, Clinton, NY; David & Marci Yager, Deerfield, NY; Daniel Yager, Utica, NY; Judi & Steve Lux, Marcy, NY; Steven & Tammy Yager, Florida and Brian & Stacey Yager, Deerfield, NY, her grandchildren: Brendan Gatley, Melissa & Christopher Banas, Rob & Laura Yager, Chelsea Yager, Jacob Lux, Matthew Lux, Griffin & Jaden Yager and Zachary & Savannah Yager, along with several great grandchildren. Doris is predeceased by her husband Robert Yager, her brother Alan Scheideman, and her grandson Michael R. Brindisi. Doris inspired others not only by believing in what they could achieve on stage but what they could achieve in life. Her positive attitude and loving kindness will be missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Yager's funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica and at 10:00 at St. Joseph-St Patrick's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Monday from 4pm to 7pm. In lieu of flowers those so wishing may make donations to Mother Marianne's West Side Soup Kitchen or "The Saint Marianne Cope Shrine Fund" in Doris' memory.
